FAQs - New Students
What is an Apprentice/Craft Trainer?
An apprentice/craft trainer is a unique educational opportunity where students gain specific skills and knowledge related to a trade/craft. Training combines daily on-the-job (OJT) supervised instruction with your employer and classroom education at ABC of Oklahoma.
ABC’s Electrical Apprenticeship is a four-year program with 160 hours per year of classroom instruction. ABC’s Plumbing Apprenticeship is a two-year program with 170 hours per year of classroom instruction. Classes are held one night per week.
What is the cost?
Tuition is billed quarterly to the employer/training sponsor. The financial arrangements between the Apprentice and the Training Sponsor are individual and depend on their agreement.
For the fee schedule, go to www.abcokla.org under Education & Safety, Apprenticeship, Electrical & Plumbing Apprenticeship Training Program Information.
Can I enroll if I’m unemployed?
Yes! After a new student has completed the enrollment forms, ABC will send contact information of available apprentices to training contractors. If the new student is still unemployed when school starts, payment must be made prior to second night of class and books are distributed.
I have prior experience, can I skip first year?
If you have previous NCCER training, you will need to bring the NCCER certificates or NCCER transcripts.
Otherwise, the electrical first year test-out test will be given to all first-year electrical students the first night of class. The minimum passing test-out grade is 80%. This is the only time the test out test will be given. Test out is only available for the first year.
The plumbing program is a two-year program and test-out is not available.
What do I need to bring the first night of class?
Notebook, pen or pencil and a government issued ID card.

How much time does ABC’s Apprenticeship Program count towards the Journeyman License?
Electrical students accumulate actual classroom hours towards their hours of experience requirement towards the journeyman test. This equals up to 160 hours per year or 640 hours over the 4-year program.
Plumbing students accumulate two-thirds (2/3) of a year, or eight months of experience over the 2-year program.
